About this set

If you are looking for a Thanksgiving crossword that is friendly to read and quick to finish, this set of eight is for you. The clues are about the dinner table and the autumn harvest: “Spoon juices over the roasting bird” (BASTE), “Warm spiced drink pressed from apples” (CIDER), “Small green herb with tiny leaves” (THYME) and “Tree whose sap becomes sweet syrup” (MAPLE). A few are about being together, such as SHARE and GUEST.

Each puzzle is a five by five grid with four to six clues, printed in type of 20 point or larger under the grid, so one crossword takes only a few minutes and leaves room to write each letter in pencil. Every clue was written for this site in plain English, and none is copied from a newspaper or another publisher. These holiday puzzles were made for print and are not part of the daily puzzles on screen.

The full PDF has the eight puzzles and then an Answers section with four filled grids to a page; a puzzles-only file leaves the answers out for a group. How to print these puzzles

Open the PDF (or save it) and choose Print. The pages are US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
On A4 paper, or if a margin is cut off, choose “Fit to page” (or “Fit”). Otherwise choose “Actual size” or 100 percent, which keeps the type at its full large size.
Choose black and white or grayscale. The puzzles need no color, and it saves ink.
Print one page per sheet. “Multiple pages per sheet” makes the letters small again.
To print only the puzzles, print the puzzles-only file, or in the full file print just the pages before the section called Answers.
