About this set

These ten word searches are a friendly nod to the Irish, to the color green and to a bit of luck. The words include IRISH, GREEN, CLOVER and LUCKY, music such as a FIDDLE, a HARP and a lively PARADE with a BAND, and places and things you might picture in the old country: a GLEN, a LOCH, the MEADOW, DUBLIN, soda BREAD and a SCONE with BUTTER. Every page has an eight by eight grid and six words to find.

The pages are printed for easy reading. Grid letters are 36 point, the word list is 24 point and there is a box beside each word. At the Easy level the words run only left to right or top to bottom, never backwards and never diagonally, so a puzzle is a few unhurried minutes of pencil work. Nobody has to be Irish to enjoy it.

The full PDF holds the ten puzzles and then an Answers section, with the hidden words shaded, and a puzzles-only file is included for a group. It suits a tea table on the seventeenth of March, a St Patrick’s party at the senior center or a quiet afternoon at home. The word list was written for this site and is free of brand names, and the sheets are free to print.

How to print these puzzles

Open the PDF (or save it) and choose Print. The pages are US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
On A4 paper, or if a margin is cut off, choose “Fit to page” (or “Fit”). Otherwise choose “Actual size” or 100 percent, which keeps the type at its full large size.
Choose black and white or grayscale. The puzzles need no color, and it saves ink.
Print one page per sheet. “Multiple pages per sheet” makes the letters small again.
To print only the puzzles, print the puzzles-only file, or in the full file print just the pages before the section called Answers.
